I am sick of nobody standing up for us. Look, we all know that in this US society, if you have money, you have the power. Money buys opinions, it buys political offices... More specifically, money pays somebody to lobby congress. Money pays somebody to create a slanderous TV ad. Money pays people to call constituents and request your vote or call your congress member to demand something you vaguely understand. (I know. I was paid as a temp to do that once for a bill.) Money pays for a no vote on something important because a yes vote means that money doesn't go to your reelection campaign, but to a slanderous and/or confusing TV ad. Money also funds scientists to publish papers and do research in favor of your brand. Money pays a marketing agency to create a press release sent to all news organizations so that your product is a topic of conversation that week. So, when somebody is allowed to collect and horde a lot of money, you are actually giving them the right to have more power than you. After the Great Depression, the VERY wealthy were taxed between 70% - 95%. This taxation funded our building up of Japan after we won the WWII, and allowed us to build the infastructure that all Americans benefited from that we enjoy today. These days, we're being told that the difference between a 22% tax and 34% tax on the very wealthy is somehow a threat to capitalism. I beg to differ. Here we are struggling with the Great Recession, worrying about our budget and our deficit and our spending. The solution being proposed is "Ah gee. We all have to cut back." so they hack the programs that are benefiting us all or usually the poor in some way, and why? So that the very wealthy can shamelessly keep their millions of dollar and remain more powerful than the average American? THAT IS A TREASON TO DEMOCRACY. If you salary 10 Million, the difference between say 20% taxation and 30% taxation is a million dollars. But the difference between that particular person in keeping 8 Million dollars and 7 million dollars is laughable. It's not as if they had 8 million dollars instead of 7 million dollars that they would suddenly start up and fund dozen small businesses and make jobs. They'd probably buy another house, transfer money overseas, do something fairly selfish that would either make them more money or use that money to exhibit power over others. The money we let the very wealthy keep, will not build up our society. If that same amount of money was given to government, the theory is it would go to the protect/helpout/buildup institutions for the people. The more the wealthy can keep, the less we all have as a whole. The REAL kicker is that the new Deficit deduction package Obama's proposing is increasing retirement age to 69. 69! WTF! What, my parents have the right to retire and travel around at 62 but because the very wealthy need their millions I have to retire at 69! Oh feudal system! Oh Oligarchy! We've missed you so! |
